The Denis Roussel Award

Overview

The Denis Roussel Award was established in 2018 by Rfotofolio to honor the legacy of photographer and educator Denis Roussel. The award aims to highlight the work of photographers who utilize historical and alternative photographic processes, such as silver gelatin. It celebrates artists who continue to explore and innovate within these traditional methods, keeping the spirit of analog photography alive.

Reward

One photographer will be selected to receive the Denis Roussel Award, which includes a $2,000 cash prize. Additional awards include two Merit Awards of $500 each, the Rfotofolio Merit Award of $500, and various other recognitions such as a portfolio review with Christopher James, a gift certificate from Bostick & Sullivan, and gifts from Hahnemühle Paper and Mark Nelson.

Eligibility

The award is open to all photographers worldwide whose work is based on historical or alternative photographic processes. All submitted work must be created by the applicant; inkjet prints and AI-generated work are not permitted.​

Application Requirements

Portfolio of seven well-edited images. Written statement about the submitted work.
