The VII Foundation, dedicated to in-depth journalism, offers the "Reporting the Native American Experience, Level 1" program. This 12-week, tuition-free online seminar is designed to equip Native American participants with essential skills in visual storytelling. The course emphasizes ethical considerations and aims to foster lasting careers in photojournalism, focusing on narratives that authentically represent Native American experiences.
Participants will receive comprehensive training in developing, researching, and planning photo essays suitable for editorial publication. The program includes lectures, group discussions, critiques, and assignments, culminating in a short photo essay. Upon completion, participants will have a polished portfolio to advance their careers in visual journalism.
This program is exclusively open to Native American individuals. Applicants should have a strong interest in visual storytelling and a commitment to ethical journalism. While prior experience in photography or journalism is beneficial, it is not mandatory.
