Overview

The Online Journalism Awards, established in May 2000, are the premier global honors recognizing excellence and innovation in digital journalism. Administered by the Online News Association, these awards celebrate the achievements of international and local media, independent journalists, nonprofit newsrooms, and journalism collaborations worldwide. The OJAs encompass various categories, reflecting the dynamic nature of digital journalism and its impact on audiences globally.

Reward

The OJAs offer various awards, with a total prize pool of $45,000, sponsored by organizations such as the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication’s Agora Journalism Center, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and SmartNews. Awards are presented across multiple categories, including Excellence in Science Reporting, Innovation in Revenue Strategy, and Excellence in Social Media Engagement.

Eligibility

The Online Journalism Awards (OJAs) are open to newsrooms of all types, including websites, microsites, blogs, podcasts, and other digital platforms where journalistic content is produced or curated. Independent creators who produce journalistic content under their own brand are also eligible to enter. There are no nationality restrictions; the competition is open globally. Entries must consist of work published between April 15, 2024, and April 2, 2025.
