National Geographic

Natural Hazards Solutions

Overview

National Geographic Society is seeking to fund impactful projects driving science-based solutions to the growing threat of extreme weather events and natural hazards such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, droughts, floods, heatwaves and severe storms. Projects should aim to increase adaptability and resilience to these events and demonstrate tangible positive impacts on people and nature. Successful projects will demonstrate sufficient engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure that project development and implementation are carried out for at-risk human communities and natural systems. Proposals for both new and ongoing projects will be considered.

Reward

Proposals may request up to $50,000 USD in funding for a two year project. This opportunity is best suited for individual project leaders with demonstrable experience leading, designing and implementing science-based solutions to extreme weather events and natural hazards. However, there is no explicit educational or experience requirement – applicants should demonstrate that they have the expertise, skill and passion to successfully complete their project. These grants are highly competitive and are reserved for select projects that push boundaries to achieve significant and tangible impact.
