Kavli Science Journalism Award

Overview

The AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards, managed by AAAS since 1945 and sponsored by The Kavli Foundation, reward outstanding science reporting that enhances public understanding of science, engineering, and mathematics. They recognize individual journalists—both amateur and professional—whose work demonstrates accuracy, originality, clarity, and public benefit. The awards span various journalism mediums including print, online, radio, and TV.

Reward

They will pay a $5,000 USD Gold Award to the top entry in each category, while runners-up receive a $3,500 USD Silver Award. The awards honor excellence in science writing across diverse subjects and formats.

Eligibility

Journalists of any nationality, aged 18 or older, are eligible to enter their science reporting. Submissions must target general audiences and cover topics such as life, physical, or social sciences, engineering, mathematics, or science-related policy.
